Professionally built web sites

Much of my graphic design experience has been in the practice of building web sites. I work with a variety of companies requiring web sites to serve diverse needs such as business to business, e-commerce, marketing, recruiting, and informational purposes.

While working on the projects, I am interested not only in what the web site looks like but also how it is built and what technologies make it work. So I have added to my design practice programming skills such as JavaScript, ASP, VBScript, PHP and Perl. I feel this wide range of knowledge adds more value to my graphic design services.

Doneckers

A web site giving customers a glimpse into the vast collection of merchandise that made Doneckers a shopping destination. Everything from Haute fashion, to housewares, toys, and fine furniture. Also included web sites for the Restaurant and Inns. The current web site is just a shadow of itself while the company undergoes restructuring.

James Sterling, AIA

A marketing web site that informs prospective clients of Mr. Sterling's architectural practice, style, and theory. It also serves as a point of client communication. This site includes a project gallery showcasing both in-progress and completed projects.

AIA Maine

The initial scope of this project was at first only a site-wide redesign for the Maine chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Later, it broadened to include a the Member Firm search feature along with a comprehensive search interface. Features an email list serve module, membership database and self-serve firm membership administration area.

Update: While I am no longer involved with this project, much of my redesign remains intact. Current HTML is not fully standards compliant. Depending on what internet browser you use, web site will not render as expected.

Gulf of Maine Aquarium
Fishes of the Gulf of Maine

This web site is a recreation of a research publication: Fishes of the Gulf of Maine, first edition, printed 1953, 561 pages. The project was to build an XML structure to hold the book's content and then export it as HTML. I used the DocBook XML document type and XSL stylesheets as a basis for assembling the book's content. The final product can be distributed in a variety of formats, for instance, HTML, PDF or RTF.

Work involved proofreading all text copy (scanned by OCR software), authoring XML, XSL and DTDs, writing Perl scripts to automate content transformation into XML markup and producing the final HTML.

Olde Fogie Farm B&B

This web site for a quaint B&B located in Lancaster county, allows visitors to check room schedules, peruse a photo scrapbook of memories, learn about the history of the farm, and read the annual newsletters (which are hilarious).
